Have you ever wondered where does the yarn from Pashmina or cashmere shawl come from?

They feel extremely soft and are very warm in winters, protecting you from cold.

Authentic pashmina is made from the soft undercoat hair of the Kashmiri Goats (Capra hircus). The hair is combed (not clipped like sheep) from the neck area which is used for making fine shawls and other products. It is obtained from the Kashmiri goats and these goats come from the high plateaus of the Himalayan region. It is the most precious fibre in the world which is not so easy to find. Centuries-old process and techniques have been using for weaving Kashmiri pashmina shawls.

The making of pashmina shawl is as under :

  1. Every year, from March to May, Kashmiri pashmina goat goes through a process called ‘MOULTING’ that naturally, makes them creating a certain mixture of coarse-grained hair and fine undercoat. And it is re-growing in winters.

2. The process involves selecting the finest hair, combing the undercoat hair, shorting raw cashmere, spinning and weaving. An authentic pashmina is approx. 19 microns. It results in producing the warmest materials that you can never find anywhere on the planet and that’s why it is so expensive and demands a good price compared to other wool shawls.

3. It is taken for the weaving process. Which is traditionally done manually by the Kashmiri artisans.

4. Once it is weaved than it is taken for dying, washing, embroidery and for further designs.

       5. Since the pashmina is embroidered and hand spun it is said that no two-hand crafted pashmina could be the same.

       6. The whole process takes days and a lot of patients needed to make a really beautiful luxuries pashmina shawl.
